I write to lend my voice to Essence Productions’ application to BECAUSE NOW their remarkable production, “Point of No Return”. In 2018 Wyndham Cultural Centre presented this work to great success as part of our annual theatre programs and in celebration of Wyndham Theatre Company’s 50th anniversary. On the surface this show is a fascinating chapter in Australia’s colonial history; but beneath this however lie resonant threads of political and institutional violence, and the fragile and volatile bonds of masculinity. Point of No Return’s 2018 season was exceptionally realised by a young male ensemble making the show particularly resonant for younger audiences. I understand that Essence Productions are investigating AUSLAN interpretation as part of future seasons, and I believe this will be a valuable addition to the reach of an already accessible and engaging work. The creative team led by Alaine Beek are highly skilled and capable, and this work has been developed to the highest standard. I would strongly urge inclusion of Point of No Return in Theatre Works 2019 programs, and am happy to discuss the strength of the proeduction with you further by email or telephone.
